Tradecorp and
Partner Projects:
With more than 40 years’ cumulative experience and
partnerships in the region, Tradecorp Logistics has the capability to
offer a comprehensive range of inbound supply chain services. The
Network has been involved in a large number of successful mining, oil,
gas and power projects. The strength and success involved in delivering
on time in budget is due to experienced and dedicated teams delivering
local solutions with international standards. In order to better
illustrate the Group’s capabilities and experience, below are examples
of past projects undertaken;Mining Projects:
Randgold Resources' Kibali Gold Mine
Kibali Gold Mine (operated by Randgold Resources Ltd, in a
joint venture with AngloGold Ashanti and SOKIMO) the involvement
constitutes a comprehensive supply chain offering, comprising sourcing,
procurement, warehousing, logistics, clearing and on-site handling. The
speed and agility of the supply chain are key contributors to the
continued project success. Over 10,000 truckloads have been moved from
Mombasa to site, covering an approximate 1,700km each way. To date
supply has included the movement of 100,000 MT of cement and 50 million litres of diesel fuel. Currently, the Group is focused on the transition
from construction to an operational environment.
AngloGold Ashanti’s Geita Gold Mine
The Network handled the entire greenfield project including fleet and
earth moving equipment mobilization and continues to support the steady
state operations at the mine.
The project was successful despite operating in arduous conditions,
after the El Nino rains had destroyed vital infrastructure, including
roads and bridges in East Africa. It was during this time that the Group
pioneered multi-modal transport for the out of gauge equipment over Lake
Victoria to Nungwe Bay, about 30km from the mine site. This effective
system is still in use today.
Banro Corporation
The Network has provided a full logistics service to the Banro
Corporation, in Eastern DRC, for the past 4 years, working with both the
Twangiza and Namoya Gold Mines. In the case of Twangiza, a gold
production plant was relocated from Australia to the Eastern DRC,
totalling in excess of 1,600 MT. The Namoya Gold Mine provided different
challenges and required the use of specialist transportation equipment
to ensure delivery of items to a remote location 480km from the border
of Eastern DRC.
North Mara Mine Upgrade (Afrika Mashariki
Gold Mine)
When the Tanzanian miner embarked on a plant upgrade, the Network was
awarded the project services task of managing the international and
Tanzanian-based logistics. This included moving cargo from various
international locations to Mombasa where road transportation and
delivery to site was undertaken.
African Barrick Gold
Over the past several years, the Network has been contracted to provide ABG’s operating mines in Tanzania with the ‘final leg’ logistics and
customs clearance. Logistics systems were created and implemented
through dispatch platforms in Dar es Salaam and Mombasa, and comprises
load planning and optimization, convoy preparation and supervision,
transport and heavy haulage with real-time tracking.
Oil and Gas Projects:
A highly noteworthy project has been the logistics service provision
to Tullow Kenya BV under impeccable safety standards. 1,600 truckloads
were moved in the isolated, tough terrains of Northern Kenya, which
included infield rig shunting operations on-site.
The Tradecorp network has provided logistical support for Tullow Oil
and Heritage Oil in the Lake Albert region, Uganda, demonstrating robust
experience in moving oil drill rigs and camp equipment. Additional
activities include servicing companies in the oil energy exploration
sector such as BGP Kenya, Weatherford Drilling, SMP Drilling, Sakson
Egypt and Schlumberger. Success is evidenced by the maintenance of
unparalleled safety records in Uganda and Kenya.
Power Generation Projects:
Thika Power Plant - Construction of a 87MW diesel power plant
located at Thika site, Kenya.
Rabai Power Project – Construction of a 90MW diesel power plant
located at Rabai, near Mombasa in Kenya.
